Following a competition for ideas, several agencies collaborated on this large-scale project:
With the aim of restoring the “Conti” to all its former glory, and above all enhancing it, the Part de Rêve agency explains that:
"We want to heighten and reinforce the Art Deco style of the building with additional decorative elements, but also to create a break in identity with more contemporary features. The idea is to ‘shake up’ the formal and chromatic codes by confronting the architecture with shapes and tones that will really make the aesthetics of the whole vibrate."
Without losing any of its beauty, this majestic lobby will be entirely redesigned to become a genuine hub of life and exchange.
Opposite the reception area, which will be moved forward to enhance the reception concept, a spacious passageway, framed by wrought iron grills and magnificent chandeliers, will provide access to the former Bar Le Conti, an unmissable Brest institution.
The 3-seater “indiscreet” sofas and famous rotunda, emblematic of the Conti, will be reupholstered and installed in the lobby’s refurbished lounge area.
A co-working space will add to the vitality of the lobby, which will remain not only a vital thoroughfare but also become a privileged venue for sharing and exchange.
Open to Brest residents from 7 to 77 years of age... who’ll be enchanted to immerse themselves once again in the hushed atmosphere of the Conti, the superb bar itself, the centrepiece of the setting, will be restored and revisited in its original finishes to be in harmony with the spirit of the venue.
A large “rotunda” seat will serve as a unifying element, and take pride of place in the centre of the bar. More intimate lounge areas will be located on either side of this island.
The Conti bar will offer a brunch on weekends and a restaurant service at any time with a menu of local and seasonal products.
A brand new wellness area, accessible both to the hotel's clientele and to outside customers, will open its doors in the former breakfast room and at the back of the building. Designed to be the last word in terms of well-being, this space will house a swimming pool, a spa, a hammam, a sauna, as well as massage and treatment rooms.
Continuing in the Art Deco spirit, the pool will boast a magnificent glass roof surrounded by greenery.
All the fully refurbished rooms will offer an invitation to travel, based on the theme of the great ocean liner cruises of the 30's, but with all the modern comfort of today. A luxurious and unique artist's room, a true Apartment Suite with a balcony and a view of the harbour, will offer guests an unforgettable journey back in time... Three large apartments, specially designed for longer stays, alone or with family, will be fitted out in the old Richelieu lounge.
Two new Suite rooms, with private terraces overlooking the glass roof of the pool and the leafy garden, will be created in place of the Jean Bart lounge.
An initial sample room will be ready in February 2022.
The facade of the hotel will be greatly enhanced with the transformation of all the windows in the Art-Deco style. The work will also highlight the cornice and the relief corners of the building, as well as adding a touch of colour to the hotel’s entrance.
They said:
Gurvan Branellec, President:
"Major work was carried out in 1999, but since then, Le Continental has aged quite a bit. It was really time to restore the hotel to its former prestige. We are therefore refocusing on our roots in Brest and beginning a genuine metamorphosis to give a new lease of life to this legendary establishment. This superb project started at the beginning of December and the stages will follow one another: emptying the hotel, searching for asbestos and then the structural work will finally be able to start!"
Rozenn Branellec-Dumon, General Manager:
"It is crucial for us in our approach to provide an extra touch of soul to each hotel, which translates into a careful and personalised scheme of decoration. The ‘Part de Rêve’ design agency has been working with us for nearly 10 years on our renovations, and we work in close collaboration, since they perfectly understand our wishes, while at the same time taking into account our operating constraints. We wish to enhance the Art Deco spirit of the hotel by highlighting everything that contributes to the richness of this period. This is why we were inspired by the Art Deco style through travel. We mustn’t forget that we’re also here to make people dream..."
