    The replacement capital on three occasions

    Tours has been the capital of France on three occasions. The first time, in 1422, the French kings settled in Touraine and chose it as the capital. Then, in 1588, King Henry III made it the kingdom’s capital when he was driven out of Paris. In the 20th century, Tours replaced Paris for the last time.
